Mackenzie Knick
2017-2020
Mackenzie Knick is a South Carolina native with a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a specialization in Music Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. During her studies, Mackenzie pursued a focus in neurologic music therapy as well as in palliative care and cancer support. She also focused on counseling with children and adolescents by integrating a variety of expressive arts therapy techniques to expand the counseling experience for her clients. To culminate her educational experiences, she published a thesis focused on a trauma-informed music therapy framework with migrants and immigrants at the US and Mexico border.
2020-2022
After graduating in May 2020, Mackenzie moved from Texas to North Carolina to practice music therapy with neurodivergent teens. During this time, she supervised a team of other music therapists and provided continuing education opportunities focused on counseling techniques to enhance the team's practice. She helped develop curriculum for improved program standards and to further reach an increasing variety of client needs.
2022-Present
In 2022, Mackenzie moved to Virginia and started her clinical supervision with Manda Arnold-Moore in community mental health counseling. Aside from her clinical work with children and teens, Mackenzie worked on co-authoring a chapter focused on music therapy and global work with migrants, immigrants, and refugees alongside Dr. Alpha Woodward and Dr. Krzysztof Stachyra.
This past year, Mackenzie welcomed her sweet son and found inspiration to move her focus of counseling to perinatal care, postpartum care, and women's issues. She is excited to continue her supervision with Becky Gleed, LMFT and grow her practice to support the population with expressive arts and counseling services. When she isn't working, Mackenzie enjoys baking, hiking, and creating art.
