Fertility Counseling
Infertility Counseling: Our Offerings
This July I wanted to shine a spotlight on one of the core offerings of my practice: infertility counseling, specifically psychological support for those going through infertility treatment, whether it’s caused by PCOS, endometriosis, or genetic issues. We work with people experiencing repeat miscarriages, and those attempting intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilization, whether it’s an individual or a couple.
Many of our clients have medically complex cases, and one of the benefits of working with our practice is our experience with the medical vocabulary: We’re fully fluent in the jargon, so there’s no need to spend time filling us in on the medical situation. We also collaborate, as needed, with the rest of your clinical team.
We do not offer gestational carrier assessments or psychological assessments for IVF candidates or egg donors.
Instead, our focus is solely on emotional, relational and psychological support before, during and after infertility treatment. The “after” might include going on to experience a pregnancy and birth, grieving a loss, processing the decision to cease treatment – and anything in between.
Our approach is highly personalized. I like to describe it as an integrative, eclectic, person-centered approach. Working with these medically, psychologically individualized cases, I offer careful attention to your unique needs and experiences, whether you are going into – or coming out of – infertility treatment, grieving or celebrating. And, in the case of a couple receiving therapy together, I use the Gottman method – an evidence-based approach that focuses on partner communication around these challenging topics.
I also wanted to mention two resources:
For my Las Cruces community, I will be a featured local author at the beautiful Coas Books. Come and check out my newly released workbook for mothers transitioning back to work. There will be sweet treats and bubbles, and a chance to support a great local bookstore.
An online resource I’m happy to share is a 45-minute talk I gave at the Healthy Pregnancy Summit. I spoke on pregnancy loss, the healthy transition to parenthood, and perinatal mental health. Email me for the recording link!
