The Land of Enchantment
New Mexico, the land of enchantment. There's something transformational about spending time in this colorful and sacred, vibrant and diverse, musical and artistic place. When my family and I were looking to reset after years of urban burnout, New Mexico met every one of our criteria, which is how we found ourselves there in May 2020.
The beauty of New Mexico – the community, the setting – was everything we had hoped for and more. But at the same time, it made a stark contrast with the struggles of everyday life: the weak medical infrastructure plus the dismal state of public k-12 education led us to change plans and head back east after a few years.
I was transformed by my time in New Mexico, but I also was deeply saddened by the sheer lack of resources available in this breathtaking place. We relocated back to the D.C. metro area, but the gratitude and empathy I feel towards the community leads me to stay connected to the land of enchantment through my telehealth practice and regular, quarterly visits.
This fall, I’m happy to announce I’ll be in New Mexico for an extended trip. I’ll start in Las Cruces, where I am currently the only licensed Perinatal Mental Health Counselor (PMHC) and then head to Albuquerque where I’ll be joining a climb with Postpartum Support International and participate in an event with Kassy’s Kause. Then I’ll travel around Northwest New Mexico, including Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Las Vegas, Shiprock and Gallup where I’ll be available for in-person sessions.
I’ll also be connecting with medical providers, finding ways to continue to be of service to this under-resourced community. In the fall, I’ll be getting certified as a fertility counselor with Sharon Covington, so I plan to bring that expertise to support a state currently covered by only two fertility clinics.
If you’re located in New Mexico – whether you’re a medical provider, a current or prospective patient – please reach out and connect, and hopefully we can see each other face-to-face!
